I was recently in California for about two months, and a few nights a week I'd go join a pub quiz. Not because I'm especially competitive about trivia, but because it turned out to be one of the easiest ways to meet locals and just have a reason to leave the house on a random Tuesday.
Now that I'm back in Helsinki, working from home most days, I felt the same itch. So I went looking for pub quizzes here. Below are the four I've found so far. I'll keep updating this list as I try more and confirm details.
A quick note before the list: quiz nights move, get cancelled, or change hosts more often than venues update their websites, so treat times below as a starting point and double check before you go.
The Old Irish Pub, Mondays at 20:00
Free quiz night at the Old Irish Pub on Mannerheimintie 12, right in the city center near the central station. Good option if you want to start the week with something other than dinner and Netflix.
Bar Chaplin, Tuesdays at 18:00
English Rapid Trivia at Bar Chaplin, Vuorikatu 14, also city center. Earlier start than most of the others on this list, which makes it an easy one to combine with dinner beforehand.
Oluthuone Haka, Wednesdays at 19:00
An English-language pub quiz at this beerhouse in the Alppiharju/Kallio area, Toinen linja 7. Craft beer bar with a relaxed, regulars-heavy feel. Good if you want something lower-key than a big touristy quiz.
Lazy Fox, Thursdays at 19:00 (sign-up from around 18:00)
Lazy Fox runs a Thursday quiz, and as far as I can tell it happens at both their Kamppi (Albertinkatu 36) and Kallio (Helsinginkatu 15) locations, so it's worth checking which one before you head out. Teams of up to four, with a prize wheel at the end for the winners.
